It Need Not Take a War to Wake Up America

Sit-ins at Congressional offices are a good next step

Thomas Sowell, a Brushfires favorite, is among the history/economics experts who have chronicled the fact that America did not really recover from the Great Depression until the onset of World War II. As much as the left bows at the altar of FDR and the New Deal, the US economy wasn’t recovering significantly until the war effort began. (Sowell’s most recent observations are found in his new book, “The Housing Boom and Bust”).

We agree with Dr. Sowell, but we see the war’s impact in more than economic terms—war seems to be the only thing that snaps the general populace out of the indolence that allows God-given freedom and self-reliance to be yielded in favor of elitist government control. We hope it doesn’t take another war to turn America and the American economy around this time.

The socialism-inspired wide scale government intervention of FDR’s New Deal had a mesmeric effect on Americans, much like we’re seeing today. The Pravda media are in lockstep support of socialism, and so they provide through their news coverage the comforting spin that ‘something is being done’. A huge chunk of the electorate meekly goes along with it, not having the knowledge or experience to stand up and call “BS”, even though their gut is telling them that everything that is happening is wrong and making things worse. “Freedom” and individual responsibility become forgotten or outdated or otherwise irrelevant terms, as people blindingly await the benefits promised by their elite, articulate and well-intentioned rulers.

Unfortunately, a mesmerized state of thought is also blind to danger and evil, as it was in the run up to World War II. Once violence breaks out, thought tends to wake up to what is at stake when freedom is really under attack. But the cost of a late-arriving wake up is severe.

Many have noted that we’re on the same path now. Human history’s most generally known and still visible tie to the one God are the Jews. And so it isn’t surprising that today’s leftward lurch to radical, godless socialism has been accompanied by a surge of anti-Semitism and the isolation and intimidation of Israel by its once closest ally, the United States of America.

So is it going to take a Middle East (or North Korea) ignited World War III to wake Americans up? To state the obvious, we hope not. But to go a little beyond hope, we think a wake up is still possible without war. More precisely, we actually think a majority of engaged Americans are awake even now, but they have had no way to voice their objections other than participating in tea parties and listening to conservative talk radio. We think Congressional emails and phones and faxes are dominated by American opposition to Obama’s agenda, but the Political Class won’t go along because they’ve long since sold out to whatever the latest popularity polls says, especially when that poll relates to “America’s historic first black President”. (We don’t buy any presidential approval poll; we think they are contrived in content and in sampling, and we don’t think in any event that personality approval equates to substantive approval.) And so the wake up has actually occurred, but what’s missing is a way to execute on what Americans are feeling--one or more visible national political leaders to rally around; a confident and unapologetic voice to loudly and unambiguously denounce this socialist hijacking of America through fraud.

Many might think it would be a modern-day miracle if the country is able to wake up without experiencing a physical war. The mesmerism seems so deep and pervasive, plus many good and decent people are on eggshells as it relates to criticizing Obama. But the light can go on throughout America, because the issue isn’t Obama’s personality. It’s about preserving the governmental and societal structure that gave Obama a chance in the first place. We can prove we are truly beyond racism, not when we elect a black President, but when we can condemn his policies just as we would condemn them when advocated by Karl Marx or Joseph Stalin. Socialism is wrong; it violates the human spirit, and it doesn’t matter who the socialist spokesman is—he or she is wrong, too.

The Pravda media would have everyone believe there just isn’t that much energy in the opposition to this oh-so-popular President. They are dead wrong. We believe the necessary number of engaged and enraged citizens already exists in every Congressional district, including the bluest of the blue, to cause a major course correction. We’d suggest as a practical step that it’s time for citizens of every Congressional district—whether the Representative is Democrat or Republican, but especially if a Democrat—to stage full occupancy, daily sit-ins at each Congressional office in DC and in the state district. The message of the sit-ins is to reverse and repeal every part of the Obama agenda, NOW. It just has to be demanded, and visibly. So get it started in your district, and don’t stop until your Congressmen gets it. You can find contact information and eventually office locations, here.

Pravda would like very much for Americans to believe the Obama administration is a brilliantly directed, infallible machine capable of creating a new truth for a new world, and we all have no choice but to watch it happen and learn to appreciate the genius of it all. This is crap, plain and simple. Socialism isn’t new and it most certainly doesn’t reflect genius. Genius is the word for the founding fathers of America, and their vision and success was not in creating a new truth, but in adapting human government to be consistent with the only truth: we are entitled to and accountable for the exercise of individual freedom and responsibility under God. If we’ll keep this flame of truth alive—this core ‘brushfire of freedom’--through determined and unafraid citizen action, we can turn the country around without having to endure World War III.
