Huckabee, Holder, Hoffer - and UCSD

UPDATE - June 18, 2010

A little more than a month ago, we posted this essay on a confluence of thoughts and events which speak clearly to the evil that is at the heart of the orchestrated hatred of Israel. We quoted the longshoreman philosopher, Eric Hoffer, who formulated his version of the warning--as it goes with Israel, it will go with all of humanity.

Jose Maria Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain, has just penned an article in the UK publication "The Times" in which the spirit and wisdom of Eric Hoffer lives on, and it could not be more timely, sane, and complete. We encourage everyone to read it in its entirety by clicking on the link above. But if nothing else, remember his conclusion:

Israel is a fundamental part of the West. The West is what it is thanks to its Judeo-Christian roots. If the Jewish element of those roots is upturned and Israel is lost, then we are lost too. Whether we like it or not, our fate is inextricably intertwined.

Original Essay

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee likes to tell the story of his family’s visit to the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem. He wasn’t sure it was a good idea to bring his then pre-teen daughter; didn’t know if she could really grasp it and handle it emotionally. But he went ahead with the visit, and as they were getting ready to depart the Memorial, his concern dissipated as he watched his daughter write this comment in the visitor’s log: “why didn’t somebody do something?” She grasped it alright.

Her question is ripe for America in 2010.

Take a look at this video exchange --recorded just last week--on the campus of the University of California San Diego, between a Muslim student and David Horowitz. The Muslim student in the video proudly wears her Yasser Arafat-approved terrorist scarf; she is programmed to ask a setup question by which to mislead hearers as to the documented terrorist funding for Muslim Students Associations around the US; she refuses to denounce Hamas and Hezbollah; and she is unequivocal in support of an Islamic leader’s hope for a round up of worldwide Jews into Israel so they don’t have to be hunted down—i.e., they can be all killed in one place, presumably when the Iranians have nuclear weapons.

It is a stunning and chilling call to every American—who is going to do something about this?

While you’re thinking about the proud Muslim student on the campus of UCSD, consider the past week's exchange between Congressman Lamar Smith and Attorney General Eric Holder, which flagged Holder’s pathetically resolute determination to avoid saying radical Islamic terrorism is behind the Ft. Hood massacre, the Christmas Day attempting bombing of a US airliner, and the aborted Times Square bombing. Forget anyone’s spin or apology for Holder and just listen or watch for yourself. We’re seeing willful or ignorant obtuseness about answering a question that anyone with a nickel’s worth of common sense knows the answer to.

And finally, consider these words by the famous longshoreman philosopher Eric Hoffer, reported to have been written by him in 1968 in a Los Angeles Times article:

"The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us."

Hoffer concluded:

"I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish, the holocaust will be upon us."

Americans have awakened in a big way to the fact that Obama is a fraud, and his election in 2008 was the work of fraud and deceit. Most of Americans’ awakening is focused on Obama’s indefensible economic policies that are leading to financial ruin; the Arizona immigration law is awakening Americans as to Obama’s attitudes toward citizens vs. non-citizens; and a fair amount of awakening relates to the complete disordering and dismantling of America’s historical international alliances, away from Western democracies and in favor of third world dictatorships. But ‘the Muslim thing’ is an issue a whole lot of people on the left and right just don’t want to think about; they desperately want to believe in the mantra of the ‘religion of peace’; and fervently want to take comfort that somebody somewhere knows someone who is a Muslim and a nice guy.

Shame on all of us if we can’t see the threat that is right in front of us, or we do see it but won’t lift a finger to stop it. Why doesn’t UCSD take action against the Muslim student and the Muslim students association—at the very least a public denunciation, a denial of funding and a disbanding of the group? Why don’t the people of San Diego demand action? And before wasting time entertaining all the usual liberal tripe about First Amendment rights, ask the question: would we get the same tripe rolled out if some skinhead spoke proudly of the need to round up all the black people so they can be killed all at once?

Do we really not know that there is no moral difference between a Muslim’s call to exterminate the Jews and a skinhead’s call to exterminate blacks? Both are indefensible and inexcusable in America, and every individual and societal lever of power and pressure and law enforcement, including jail and deportation, should be brought to bear to put a stop to people who espouse these views.

But here’s what makes the Muslim’s call to exterminate the Jews even more insidious and evil—it is ultimately a call to rid the world of the God of Judeo-Christianity, and a call to kill everyone--black, brown, white, male, female, old and young—who isn’t a Muslim. The typical westerner just can’t or won’t come to grips with this fact. Fear, cowardice, denial—all dressed up in every conceivable intellectual bow and ribbon of compassion, tolerance, ‘bridges of understanding’, etc.—every reaction but straightforward truth-telling and courage can be found among our so-called leaders. (Lt. Col. Allen West is an exception, as we wrote about here).

Historians may struggle for decades or centuries to try and answer the Huckabee girl’s question as it relates to the first Holocaust. But there’s no excuse for us. The Islamist threat is right in front of us; it makes no secret of its agenda and purpose; its agenda and purpose is antithetical to and incompatible with the ideals of America; and it wants to begin with a second holocaust.

The threat must be dealt with; the American people know it; and it is the American people’s responsibility to find and elect leaders who know it and are willing to deal with it. But individual Americans must also ask of themselves—what am I going to do about this?
