True National Security
Too much of the back-and-forth over national security policy obscures the more fundamental question: what exactly is the ‘nation’ our ‘government’ is supposed to protect?
It’s of course true at the most elementary level that we seek security from whoever would do harm to us. An invader who enters uninvited and kills people and steals property is something we want to be protected from. But invaders of nations (as distinguished from individual criminals) don’t exist in the abstract; they are driven by agendas and motivations. And so our concept of what America is defines what we view to be agendas and motivations that are hostile to America—i.e., who and what we view America’s enemies to be—which in turn defines what we seek security or protection from.
The radical leftists’/Obama’s vision for America is as a Marxist utopia; a place where government is god and the people are the masses; where government authorities direct and control who goes to what school, who gets what job, who earns what pay, who eats what food, who drives what vehicle, who gets what health care treatment and when, who gets to live at what location, and on and on. It is a totalitarian, authoritarian vision, and its friends are those who share this vision—which includes communism, socialism and even, to some degree, the totalitarian regimes of Islam. The enemies of this vision are those who love God and individual freedom and responsibility under God. The enemies of this vision are “We the People”.
We are living in a time when the US government views the enemies of its vision of America to be people and institutions who love God and believe individual freedom is a gift from God. In other words, we have a US government that views its enemies to be the vast majority of the American people—Americans who love the America of the founding, which most assuredly is a nation that acknowledges the Creator, man and woman as the created and as equals in the sight of God, and inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness endowed to men and women by God.
There is no reason to be surprised by
Obama’s near unilateral disarmament vis-à-vis Russia;
he views the Russian system as a friend, not a threat, to his vision of America. This is the same reason he is comfortable with Castro and Chavez. And given Obama’s far greater familiarity with Islam than with true Christianity (let’s be unwaveringly clear: Jeremiah Wright does not teach what Christ Jesus taught), this is why he is far more comfortable bowing to Islamic regimes than working with America’s traditional Judeo-Christian allies.
Similarly, there is no reason to be surprised by Obama’s disdain for Rush Limbaugh and the tea party movement—they represent the real enemies to his vision for America. Janet Napolitano, head of the Department of Homeland Security,
made this abundantly clear
when she earlier made her focus on ‘extremists’ to be those who are anti-abortion (the evil ‘religious’ people who reject the idea of government as God); those who actively support gun rights (the evil ‘individual freedom’ people who won’t bow to government control); the Iraq war veteran (the evil US military that has always protected the evil America of the founding).
Though there should be no surprise at the way Obama’s international alliances are lining up, there should be, and there is, extreme, growing and urgent concern as to the catastrophic direction this is leading. This is not about politics in any traditional sense; it goes to very fundamental questions as to the nature, condition and future of the human race.
The Obama path is the path of godlessness, and it is inevitably a path to destruction. It is a path to extinguishing the light of America, which ultimately is the light of Judeo-Christian truth. It is a path to darkness for all humanity. Intellectuals of all kinds will pee in their pants in their frantic desire to deny all of this, to label it some sort of apocalyptic hyperventilation, to wave the wand of erudite punditry/rationalization to get everyone and everything to calm down so they can get back to their glass of Chardonnay. But that’s not the way human history and human development works.
The good news for the wet pants crowd is that there are huge numbers of ‘average’ Americans who aren’t fooled in the slightest by what is going on and, in their heart of hearts, aren’t really afraid of what’s going on. They are deeply concerned and saddened to see it happen right in front of them, but they’ve locked on to nature of the evil confronting them, and they see it as no different in substance from that which had to be defeated in times past. These Americans are of course not average at all; they are just the core of the American soul that lived in the founders and can sense a deceiver and a despot without any instruction from anyone.
These Americans are not lying down; they are not going to be silenced; they are not going to surrender God’s gift of human freedom. They know the nation that needs protecting, and they are going to protect her through prayer and action. Just watch.
