A Timely Veterans Day

There’s something about our military-related holidays—such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day—that is serving the country especially well in 2010. In the awakened America of tea parties and history-making mid-term elections, Veterans Day arrives as yet another essential reminder that America’s greatness and goodness are truly exceptional in world history. They are bigger than any President; they will outlive any President. The men and women of the US military represent Exhibit A for this proposition, and their enduring values of faith, courage, discipline and love of country stand as the real deal example for us all. That we as a nation continue to produce volunteers who embody these values and are willing to serve is just one indicator that we are NOT in a period of American decline—and never will be.

Barack Obama is the voice of American decline, and he has no idea what he is talking about. The more we read of Barack Obama’s childhood—and here is a recent chronicling of his life as a child in Indonesia—the more we feel a sort of sick horror at what America is to him. He has swallowed the most hideous and despicable lies about this nation and its founding as could be imagined. He knows communism, socialism, Alinsky-ism, Islam, and black liberation theology. He hasn’t the slightest idea of what the Christian faith is all about and how it shaped and continues to shape the American experience in the direction of goodness and greatness. He harbors a hate and resentment of everything that has made America the ‘shining city on a hill’ for two centuries. And he truly seems not to know what he does not know.

Obama’s election to the Presidency was and is a travesty, a disaster, a nightmare, a cancer on the entire American system. He needs to be removed. America's newly elected Congress is going to have to step all the way up to this issue in order to truly get the country back on track. All the normal political strategies and tactics about repealing this or amending that or investigating these ignore the elephant in the room: a complete fraud is in the White House; an enemy of America is in the highest office in the land.

Our highest wish is not for personal harm or injury to Obama but for a spiritual awakening and ‘transformation’ that would impel him to a genuine sense of humility, followed by a voluntary decision to resign, to ask forgiveness for what he has done, and to let him go off by himself to read some real history books and occasionally talk with some real Americans who know just as much about dysfunctional upbringings as he does, but who emerged from theirs with a love of God and freedom that has brought them real empowerment and achievement and peace of mind.

And who might those real Americans be that Obama ought to talk with? Our suggestion today: talk privately with gatherings of veterans anywhere in this country. No cameras, no teleprompters. Just an exposure to the real people, to the real American character, to the real America.

Would it do any good? The picture isn’t particularly hopeful. There are just too many leftist groupies around Obama, including his like-minded pals in the media and academia, as well as the financial god of leftist causes, George Soros, who together maintain a kind of mental force-field around Obama that seems to keep the truth from penetrating.

But Veterans Day reminds everyone that America has been under siege for as long as it has existed; that it has faced pictures of despair and hopelessness many times. There has always been a spirit in America that rises to meet the terrible picture and correct it. That spirit is unquestionably alive and moving Americans now as much as it ever has. And it is going to prevail. Faith, courage, discipline and love of country are needed. Military veterans have always proven they have what it takes; November 2nd showed that the American people as a whole have it, too. And they are just getting started.

Happy Veterans Day 2010!
