This Revolution will be Sustained
We’re tired of the seeming relentlessness of pessimism and cynicism in some elements of American society. Less than two years ago, sage pundits on the left and right pronounced the end of Reagan conservatism, only to be stunned by election results in Massachusetts, Virginia and New Jersey. But that was quickly brushed aside as unconvincing; in fact, not many months ago, the pessimists and cynics would have said there is no way the Democrat majorities in Congress will be overturned in 2010. Now, virtually all the ‘experts’ are predicting loss of the Democrat majority in the House of Representatives, and questions are starting to raised about the Democrat majority in the Senate.
But again, pessimism and cynicism are nothing if not adaptable, and now the despairing theme is built around the notion that even if Republicans take control of both houses of Congress, they won’t have veto-proof majorities and so the stage will be set for Obama to skillfully use the state-run Pravda media to triangulate against the evil, mean-spirited, spending-cut Republicans, whereupon they will crumble just like Newt Gingrinch in his post-1994 showdown with Bill Clinton. The government’s insolvency and inability to forge a path of renewal and restoration will be blamed on the Republicans, or equally on Republicans and Democrats, leading to Obama’s reelection in 2012, and the further leftward slide of America.
We think this is just more of the ‘expert’ commentary that fails to grasp the depth and breadth of what is going on in America. We’ve called it a
Second American Revolution;
we’ve also referred to it as the
Second Civil War.
It’s that big; and its effects will be equally far-reaching.
Because there has been no blood in the streets in these new wars (thankfully), many observers dismiss the parallels and discount the sustainability of what is collectively called the
‘tea party’ movement.
These same observers look at deficit and spending numbers and pronounce the situation ‘terminal’ no matter who wins elections. These observers are mistaken in every way.
The stirring in America, captured most vividly but not exclusively by the tea parties, is profound. It has a soulful,
spiritual dimension to it.
Americans all across the nation are reawakening to the meaning of individual freedom; they are reawakening to the importance of what their
Judeo-Christian heritage
has meant to the history and development of America. They are recognizing how far
‘we the people’
have allowed the socialist, godless, tyrannical leftist worldview to
intrude on the America of the founding.
And they are standing up to be counted.
Many and perhaps most of the people they elect in November are going to be cut from a different cloth than those elected in the last 30-40 years. They are going to take office with much less ignorance and much less fear of the Pravda media. And they are going to have the goodness and decency and resolve of the American people behind them.
Even more important, the Obama/Reid/Pelosi regime has been so extreme, so out-of-control, so reckless, that everyone already knows that bandaids are not going to be enough. Significant, principled, major-surgery type actions will be needed, and everyone knows it. Pravda can trot out the usual hysteria on behalf of all the usual victim groups, but it will fall on deaf ears.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has pointed out,
there isn’t any more money to throw at any problem; and there are not any more taxes that can be both raised and collected at normal rates. They can be raised, but people will find ways to shelter income from tax; some just won’t pay; and many others won’t have a job/income in the first place. Government unaccountability and irresponsibility is the problem, and the solution must start from a return to adult level accountability and responsibility.
The good news is that the financial condition of the American government is no different than that of any reckless-spending individual, and the problems and the solutions are the same: spending has to be radically cut; some obligations won’t be fully honored, and the credit rating of the reckless will suffer until principle and renewed discipline has made its way through the system, and the resolve to stick with it is manifest.
Thousands of individuals have rebounded from this type of adversity; so can a government. That doesn’t mean rebound is easy; and the Pravda media will spin hysterical story after hysterical story to convince whatever readers they have left that principle and discipline are too harsh and uncaring, and besides, the government’s size and complexity are so vast as to preclude such simplistic solutions.
The truth is the government’s size and complexity are so vast that only simple, common sense solutions will work, and the character of the American people will have to be trusted to weather the storms and endure the convulsions that come from breaking the addiction to spending and the allure of free-lunch, free-healthcare, free-house socialism.
The pessimists and the cynics don’t see the character of the American people as worthy of trust. They have bought into variations of the ‘ignorant masses’ worldview, along with some sort of inevitability of group clashes and group identity grievances.
But we return to
the spirit of the Declaration of Independence.
We return to the truth of one loving Creator, creating men and women individual and equal in the sight of God, with the rights to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—and the God-given character to exercise those rights with wisdom and responsibility. Bad apple exceptions to this perception of humanity may seem to abound, but the truth is and will remain: they are exceptions. Americans have proven this, time and time again.
Americans are going to prove it again. What’s driving this election cycle, and is going to drive at least the next 3-4 election cycles, is this renewed
spirit of America.
It is a renewed grasp of truth; a renewed appreciation for American ideals; a refreshed discernment of the deceit and manipulation practiced by the ruling class and their Pravda media. This level of ‘awakeness’ will not return to slumber any time soon. There is too much to be done, and Americans know it.
The pessimists and cynics
will be proven wrong;
this revolution will be sustained.
