The Summit Heard 'Round the World
Most of the ink and pixels that will be devoted to analysis of Obama’s healthcare summit will miss the bigger picture. The American people are not fooled anymore. The old combination of PR magic and Pravda spin just won’t carry the day for the leftist agenda, and outside Obama and his thugocracy, the elected officials of Congress know it. With Congressional approval at 10% going into the summit, there’s not much farther down it can go. But Obama is the one whose approval is going to tank even more. Americans’ anger at this administration is swelling, and the Blair House stunt is only going to make it worse.
No one in good conscience can claim that a majority of the American people want the nationalization of healthcare that is encompassed by the Obama/Reid/Pelosi plan. No one.
No one with a shred of honesty can claim that the failure to pass the nationalization of healthcare is the result of Republican obstruction. No one. It’s the result of the American people rising up and making their opposition known in tea parties, phone calls, faxes and emails. Even CNN polls recognize this.
But the good news for America is that Obama, Reid and Pelosi appear likely to go ahead with plans to ram it down the throats of the American people through the so-called ‘reconciliation’ process. If they and the Democrat Congress do so, a new Lexington-Concord moment will have occurred, and the second American Revolution will have been officially triggered. Because more than any other event in this disgraceful past 13 months, such an action would fully and finally wipe out the benefit of the doubt that so many good and decent Americans have been giving Obama. They will at last suspend their disbelief, as the full realization dawns on them that the ongoing destruction of the American economy; the ongoing dismantling of America’s national security perspective; and the ongoing effort to bankrupt the U.S. government is purposeful.
So many Americans just can’t bring themselves to deal with the possibility of an American president who fundamentally hates and rejects the America of the founding. Surely, they think, Obama is trying in good faith to address the nation’s challenges. Surely, they think, there must be some reason unrelated to Obama that nothing his administration is doing is helping. Surely, they think, the nice, thoughtful man that a majority of voting Americans elected President is just doing the best he can in a tough situation.
This reservoir of American goodness and decency is substantial, and while it has been draining at an accelerating pace, it has been deep enough to keep Obama afloat as somehow personally popular despite increasingly unpopular policies and decisions. But using the reconciliation process overtly and directly against the will of the American people will strip the mask off once and for all: Obama and those pushing him—most notably George Soros—are driving an agenda intended to destroy the America of the founding, once and for all. They intend to replace it with a godless, soulless, amoral, all-powerful central government which views its citizens as ignorant, impotent masses with no ability or desire to look to anything but goverment to order, direct, control and give meaning to their lives. This is hell on earth; the American people don't want it, won't accept it, and will not allow it to continue.
The fury Obama, Reid and Pelosi are about to face from the American people is going to be stunning to watch. We’ll be surprised if Obama makes it to July 4, 2010 without resigning. The people will have had enough.
The America of the founding is an America under the one God of the Bible, with freedom and individual responsibility for its citizens—originally formulated in the Declaration of Independence in terms of being created equal, with inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—as its building blocks. Those building blocks cannot be destroyed or replaced by Obama, Soros or anyone else; they are embedded in Truth itself. The American people—across gender, age, race and socioeconomic lines—know this in their hearts. They love this America. They will not allow its destruction. They have known such goodness and prosperity that they are slow and reluctant to see evil in their midst, but once they do, there is no question of whether they will go to war to destroy it.
We’ve felt a certain amount of sympathy for Obama, in the sense that no one chooses the circumstances of their birth, and it’s hard for anyone to see or understand a worldview different from what has been spoken, taught and preached by everyone around you for as long as you’ve been alive—especially when you’ve managed to get elected to the US presidency without ever having to test that worldview with a real experience in leadership. We’d love to see Obama experience a Saul-to-Paul transformation. But there comes a time when sympathy and patience run out; when the American people see that evil is as evil does; and the importance of America to humanity must trump any other consideration. The healthcare summit, followed by 'reconciliation', has brought us to that time.
