The Oil Slick that Jumped the Shark

There are probably only a few news and commentary junkies who haven’t heard of the phrase, “jumping the shark”, but in case you’re one, Wikipedia’s explanation, here, is generally ok. The phrase comes to mind as we watch the left-wing establishment hyperventilating over the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico.

This is just too perfect for the radical leftist agenda. As the Obama administration takes baby steps toward allowing very limited offshore drilling, as the leftists continue to push for ridiculous global warming fraud-based legislation and regulation to effectively tax evil fossil fuels into oblivion, lo and behold, Exhibit A for their case comes bubbling to the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

As we noted in “Evil is as Evil Does”, in the very week the leftists propose financial regulatory reform, out pops news of an SEC decision (made by a split/party-line vote where most similar actions follow unanimous votes) to initial legal action against Goldman Sachs. The White House of course insists on no coordination between its reform initiative and the SEC action, but evidence soon shows up that the Obama administration or its minions had bought up keyword search items on Google, such that immediate searching of “Goldman Sachs, SEC” would turn up a link to a pro-reform website run by the Obama team. Not even remotely a coincidence.

So perfectly orchestrated and calculated; so dependent on the lemming-like qualities of the media and the Washington D.C. politicians marching along to do the bidding of the all-wise administration; so fraudulent; so despicable.

Pardon us if the oil slick smells of the same orchestration and calculation. We don’t have the people and equipment to investigate the cause, but we wouldn’t be surprised in the least if sabotage of some kind is involved. Yes, we know this sounds like stuff that could make us easy fodder for the standard ‘tin-hat conspiracy theorist’ put-downs. But (1) we’ll wait and see what serious investigation, if any, of cause is done and what the results are before drawing any conclusions; and (2) it doesn’t really matter to us whether sabotage is ruled out as a cause.

The good news for America is that more and more people are noticing the smell of orchestration and calculation, and as a result are not blindly marching with the pied piper leftists off into the politically correct prescription of what to do next. Call it the ‘unrelenting clarity’ we first referred to here. Trust in this administration is gone; it is at zero. Pointing to the oil slick as proof of the need to abandon fossil fuels and stop drilling just isn’t going to work, even if the cause turns out to be an honest accident.

The American people are not the lemmings the leftists want and believe them to be. They are not stupid. We need fossil fuels and will need them for the foreseeable future; we have access to them that our government is denying to us; we can access them with a minimum of environmental harm; and we can and should be doing so, for the health and betterment of the entire society and economy. No oil slick will change these facts.

Nobody welcomes an oil slick, and no one is willing to accept reckless or negligent drilling practices. But the American people have trust and ocnfidence in their fellow Americans--in their decency and competence and willingness to do the right thing. Whatever the damage may be, they know the American people will get to work to fix it and make sure, as best they can, that it won't happen again. But as to making an oil slick a political prop--forget it.

Obama and his cadre of leftist radicals are wildly out of touch with America and American ideals, and they are dangerously naïve in their view that they can pull the strings of the American people through carefully crafted lying and other deceit. The American people are on to them; they would vote them out by 60+% today if they could. The D.C. elitists of both parties still don’t quite get it or believe it, and so there may be a few more capitulations by cowardly Republicans who are still influenced by what they read in the Pravda media. But come November, all that’s going to change. And it’s going to change no matter what orchestrated, calculated event Obama or Soros or any of them dream up to influence the elections. They’ve already jumped the shark, and nobody is listening to them anymore.
