Seventy-One Percent

Keep that number in mind next time you’re depressed by the media’s portrayal of the condition of America. That’s the percentage Missouri voters gave yesterday in favor of a public referendum supporting the REPEAL of Obamacare. Not 51/49; not 53/46 (as in the split between Obama and McCain in 2008); not 60/40, which would be an unprecedented landslide-level proportion in almost any election; but 71/29!!!

The media will either refuse to cover this story, or will cover it by explaining all the reasons it should be discounted—just a referendum; not legally binding; just one state, etc. But the story is HUGE, and adult Democrats, if there are any left, know that it is a signal of what is heading down the pike in November.

This was not a poll. This was not a touchy-feely focus group assessing whether Obama is likable. This was a vote of citizens who had to get a mail-in ballot, or get themselves to the voting booth, to express their view of Obamacare. And our guess is that some sizable portion of that 71 percent voted the way it did primarily out of disgust with the way the legislation was passed—with in-your-face bribery, procedural maneuvering, and the defining characteristic of this Congress: passing bills they haven’t read.

Even Republicans ought to be astute enough to realize now that they can run, first and foremost, and nearly exclusively, on repealing Obamacare. The substance of the law is repugnant to American freedom; the process by which it was passed was repugnant to the American democratic process. Obamacare is repugnant to Americans.

And here’s the corollary of the 71 percent vote, the elephant in the room—or maybe the bull in the china shop—that is great news for America. It’s a signal of where the American people are on the entire radical left agenda of Obama/Reid/Pelosi. If recall votes were possible on Obama, it’s about where the people are on him.

This is why we’ve always felt Obama’s resignation or removal is very likely. The radical leftists may think the spirit of America is so numbed-down that Obama can behave like Hugo Chavez and simply strong-arm his way through a full four year term. But the American people are outraged at what is happening; they would literally go to war against it if it were being done by an external enemy.

The spirit of America is not numbed down; it’s alive unlike any time in the last 60+ years (Reagan’s popularity was a reflection of the American spirit, but the things Jimmy Carter had done to stoke that spirit pale in comparison to what Obama has done).

Americans come very reluctantly to the conclusion that a President must go before his term is completed. But they have already reached the conclusion that Obama’s agenda must be stopped, NOW, and they are signaling this conclusion as clearly as they possibly can to the Political Class. But if votes like Missouri’s continue to be ignored or falsely downplayed or condescended to by that Political Class, American thought as a whole will move to the conclusion that Obama himself must go. We think a very large segment of American thinking is already at this point. It may not be at 71% yet, but it is moving in that direction.

All kinds of ‘experts’ can prop up all kinds of arguments as to why Obama will not resign or be removed from office, but when the clarity, force and fury of American thinking reaches critical mass, there is nothing that can prevent it from having its way. Just watch.

Seventy-one percent. Mark this as another key battle victory in the Second American Revolution.
