Resignation Talk is Going Mainstream

Nothing is more heartening than to see the subject of Obama’s resignation beginning to go mainstream. Peter Ferrara has just written in the American Spectator “The Coming Resignation of Barack Obama”; read it here. Establishment elitists can guffaw at the notion of the American Spectator as a ‘mainstream’ outlet (it is decidedly and proudly conservative), but they would be missing the point.

Just a few months ago, no publication, conservative or liberal, would think it proper to even consider the subject of resignation. They just wouldn’t want to stand up to the official scorn that would rain down on them for voicing such heresy. But Ferrara, who has long been a favorite of Brushfires because of his classic essay “What is an American?” (here), is no lightweight in the world of commentary; he is Harvard College and Harvard Law School pedigreed. He’s probably read the resignation tea leaves for quite awhile, but when he moves into the realm of being willing to write of it openly, the dam has broken.

We’re happy to have helped, as readers of this website know. We’ve been talking about resignation for over a year in more than twenty-five essays; here are the just the ones that include resignation in the title:

When Will Americans Demand Obama’s Resignation? (April 2010)
The Groundswell for Resignation has Begun (February 2010)
This is the Answer: Demand Obama’s Resignation (January 2010)
Obama – Fraud - Resignation (March 2009)
It’s Okay to Call for Obama’s Resignation (February 2009)

It takes time to turn the ship of American public opinion. But make no mistake. It has turned. When a prediction of Obama’s resignation goes mainstream, the fulfillment of that prediction is likely not far behind.
