No Reichstag Moment

Glenn Beck is not the first to voice the fear of an American “Reichstag moment”— where the radical left will stage some sort of conflagration involving a government building or agency, blame it on the ‘extremists’ incited by Fox News and talk radio, and then use the entire scam as an excuse to suspend all civil liberties, elections and institute martial law.

The radical left of Soros/Obama/Reid/Pelosi is fully capable of this kind of thinking. We’ve already seen the embryonic phases of it in fake participants at tea parties; and in bogus claims that the ‘n’ word was yelled at members of the Congressional Black Caucus. But one of many enduring blessings of Beck’s "Restoring Honor" rally on 8/28 is that before the radical left could formulate and execute on a more definitive Reichstag strategy, Beck’s rally utterly disabled and disarmed them.

The videos and the pictures of Beck’s event don’t lie. A half million Americans, of all colors, all faiths, young and old, male and female—all gathered on Constitution Mall to celebrate a return to God, a renewed stand for America of the founding. Not a single arrest occurred; and by all accounts, not even a single scrap of litter was left on the Mall after it was over. Beck’s event put the lie once and for all to the relentless Pravda/left-wing stereotype of the hate-filled, right-wing tea partiers who are rising throughout America to return the nation to its Judeo-Christian founding principles.

When protests over the Berlin Wall were starting to accelerate toward the ultimate fall of the wall, the East German security forces were reported to have said that they had been prepared for everything except what they were finally faced with: men, women and children marching peacefully in the streets, holding candles and singing hymns.

In the runup to the 8/28 rally, the radical left was nearly frothing at the mouth over the ‘pit of hatred’ they expected to see in anything organized by Beck. They no doubt had strategy upon strategy, and tactic upon tactic, ready to capitalize and exploit for political gain the abject evil that they were sure Beck would bring to the Capitol. They were ready for everything except what they got: Americans at their unassailable, historic best. The left's hopes for a Reichstag moment collapsed, along with any chance of reviving it before or after the November elections.

As we concluded nine months ago:

"Truth is not chaotic, and those Americans demanding that this government respect the truth are not fearful animals ready to mutate into anarchists. They are the spiritual brethren of the Founding Fathers; the people who trust in God as the source of their inalienable rights; and trust in their fellow Americans’ exercise of their freedom and responsibility under God. As their values re-ascend into pre-eminence in America, the result isn’t going to be panic and collapse but restoration, renewal, stability and progress. A whole lot of crises—healthcare, climate, energy—are going to be found as not crises at all. They will be found to have been false fears ginned up by the godless radical left that thought they could parlay fear into the people’s dismissal of God from their country and their lives.

Can’t be done. Won’t be done. Americans are going to defy this fraudulent government, and it is going to collapse or be removed."

We stand by our conclusion.
