“Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation…”
Admit it. The words of the title are unfamiliar. They sound like they might be from the Bible. Psalms, maybe? Of if they are not from the Bible, they must have been written in honor of some ancient nation-state.
No, they are from the national anthem of the United States of America. A little known additional verse, which reads:
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:
"In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Remember this the next time some politician says America is not a Christian nation. Remember this the next time a liberal tells you the most hallowed principle of American government is the separation of church and state.
The greatest American leaders throughout history—George Washington, Abraham Lincoln,
Ronald Reagan
—had an abiding faith in God and in the unmistakable role of ‘divine Providence’ in the creation and direction of the nation. Their abiding faith was in turn the foundation of their character and their eventual greatness.
The American people are now looking for leaders with that same abiding faith—unapologetic, sincere, humble, yet strong. This is the single biggest reason Sarah Palin is at the top of the list of Presidential contenders to replace Obama. It’s also the single biggest reason the left is apoplectic about her.
But never mind all that for now. Just remember the words of the second verse of the national anthem of the United States of America. Remember the motto:
“In God is our trust.”
