Love for America Can Save America

It’s time for Americans across the country to pour on their love for America—to think it, say it and live it. Much of today’s opinion and commentary intends to demonize and stir up hate toward a person or persons; or to place hope (or disdain) on a person or persons as either the reason for America’s challenges or the source of solutions to those challenges. An awful lot of energy, not to mention time and money, is devoted to the strategies and tactics believed necessary to slug out the fight on a personal basis for America’s future. There’s a place for all that; it’s an inevitable part of the human scene in what we call democracy.

But on a deeper level, the vast majority of Americans feel a deep and abiding love for this country, not out of some shallow concept of nationalistic pride, but out of a mostly unspoken but powerful innate sense that American ideals, as set forth in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution are (1) God-given, and (2) true and right for all humanity.

Americans believe the self-evident truths spoken of in the Declaration of Independence—one Creator; all men (and women) created equal; inalienable rights endowed by God--are in fact self-evident truths. This means two very important things: (1) an affirmation that we are a nation under God; and (2) we believe and accept that there is such a thing as truth.

These two very important things are both the bedrock of America and the reason the darkest elements of humankind have always sought America’s destruction. Get America to give up its faith in God and its insistence that truth is separate and distinguishable from lies, and what is left will be a people that can be steamrolled by the human lust for power and control over other humans.

The wars against America, including the current ‘hot war’ being waged by Islamists and the current not-yet-hot war being waged by militant godless intellectualism are, as always, ultimately about removing the Judeo-Christian God of America from her people’s understanding, and convincing her people that truth is changeable and definable by clever and powerful men.

The current wars must be won, and they will be. But as much as we may think they will be won through the emergence of the right political candidates voicing the right messages and winning election in the right places (and all of those things are important), the real setting of the stage for winning the current wars will come from a reawakened, cognizant and sincere love for America and her ideals. Because what follows in the presence of this love is a bright-line demarcation and understanding of exactly what is the truth of American ideals and what are the opposites. There ceases to be the capacity for confusion by or from the rhetoric of politicians; the people sense and know when a message and messenger are genuine, and when they are phony.

Much of this comes to mind in the wake of Dorothy Rabinowitz’ rock-the-political-world column titled “The Alien in the White House”, appearing in Wednesday’s Wall Street Journal. It’s a great read, but if you don’t have time, here’s why it is so important, and what you need to know about its content.

Rabinowitz has a sort of ‘dean of columnists’ stature which keeps her out of reach of the normal dismissal that might attach to lesser Journal columnists who would be ignored as part of blanket indictment of the Journal’s conservative editorial page. She won a rare level of moral authority (and a Pulitzer Prize) in her determined pursuit of the truth surrounding the hysterical and bogus child care abuse cases that were prosecuted in Massachusetts in the 1980’s. So when Rabinowitz takes dead aim at the profound disconnect between Obama’s view of America and Americans’ view of America—that’s a sure sign (a) there has already been a lot of talk in elite circles about this extremely uncomfortable truth, (b) her column will provoke a great deal more talk, and (c) educated, intelligent people across the political spectrum are now in the process of lining up with, if not exactly, then very close to, the positions she has outlined.

And what are those positions? Well, she’s much too careful and precise as a writer to use the ‘blunt instrument’ words of fraud and deceit, but in her own way, that is exactly what she is saying about Americans’ view of Obama the president (as very much distinguished from Obama the candidate). But even more important, ‘her own way’ involves an adept description of how and why Americans love their country, and how this love has served as awakener as Obama makes speech after speech and takes action after action that simply do not jibe with Americans’ love for their country.

We think Rabinowitz’ column may mark a watershed moment for the movement of public opinion strongly, irreversibly and demandingly (including the demand for resignation) against Obama. And indirectly, she’s outlined the prescription by which the removal of Obama can become a reality. It is through the American people’s reawakened sense and expression of love for America, and honest and genuine recognition and respect for the God-given rightness of her ideals. That love exposes the counterfeit, inevitably and with increasing clarity, and it causes that counterfeit to become increasingly offensive to the sensibilities of all Americans. The love will liberate Americans from the lies. It will end the current war within America. It will save America.

So pour it on.
