Just Say It: "Resign or be Impeached"
Newt Gingrich is the first national politician to step up, albeit timidly, to publicly use the word impeachment in relation to the actions and omissions of Obama. This is a much needed move in the right direction. Let’s hope it opens the floodgates.
In a
recent interview with Newsmax,
commenting on the Obama administration’s decision to refuse to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, Gingrich noted that ‘if a President Sarah Palin” had done something similar, there would be immediate calls for her impeachment. But in classic backtracking, the interview continues:
Asked directly whether President Obama could be subject to articles of impeachment, Gingrich said, “I think that’s something you get to much later. But I think clearly it is a dereliction of duty. Clearly it’s a violation of his constitutional oath. Clearly it is not something that can be allowed to stand."
(A Gingrich spokesman stressed after the interview that we are not currently in a constitutional crisis, nor was Gingrich calling for the direct impeachment of the president. His statements were meant to illustrate the hypocrisy of the left and the mainstream media.)
Gingrich, like almost all modern politicians, is not bold enough to step in and just speak the truth. Yet the truth is what the vast majority of Americans are now onto: Obama is a gigantic fraud, a con man elected to the Presidency on a narrative of lies that is literally breathtaking in its scope and detail. He’s an anti-American, anti-Christian, socialist/Marxist; he would not have received 25% of the vote had the truth of his philosophy and agenda not been deliberately disguised and hidden from the American people. He and his administration is acting lawlessly or with intent to destroy America as founded on so many levels it is hard to keep track: spending the country into oblivion; destroying the nation’s capacity to act on its own to meet its energy needs; acting in contempt of two court rulings; creating law and regulation through unvetted and unconfirmed czars; acting through executive and regulatory fiat in disregard of legislative process and intent; declining to prosecute Black Panthers captured on video engaging in voter intimidation; declining to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act; suing the State of Arizona; selling out secrets of our allies to do deals with Russians; facilitating the aims of militant Islamists in Iran and Egypt; piling on Israel; and on and on and on.
The American people are now ashamed and disgusted that such a fraud made it to the Presidency;
they want the fraud undone,
which is to say that they want him out, now, before conditions in the nation and the world move into cataclysmic territory; and they are looking desperately for leaders who see it, know it and say it. The politicians all fear the social upheaval they believe would follow from a public effort to remove Obama; what they can’t see is that massive social upheaval is exactly where the country is headed if Obama is not removed from office. Why?
Because every day that Obama continues in office without public calls for his resignation or impeachment is a day that American society and its leadership deny the existence of truth, or claim that truth doesn’t matter anymore, or simply conclude that standing for truth is just too difficult. This is the surest possible prescription for social, economic, national and international disaster.
Truth does exist; it matters; and it has always been difficult to stand up for—but not too difficult. America was built by people who know this—by people willing to pledge their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to prove it.
Newt Gingrich is by no means a coward—he’s already figuratively stuck his neck out where no other similarly visible public persona has been willing to go. His calculation that the media will go stark raving hysterical the moment someone speaks seriously on this topic is spot on correct. Very, very few human beings have the character and intestinal fortitude to stand up to left-wing hate; it takes someone uniquely confident in the existence and power of truth to do it. But what Gingrich may not fully grasp is that the national politician who drops the timidity and calmly, fearlessly but forcefully and without apology makes the case the Obama should resign or be impeached will be headed for the Presidency, a new spot on Mt. Rushmore, or a new monument in Washington, D.C., or maybe all three.
Because Americans know that America is in a war for its survival, and timid conservatism won’t win it. But as has always been the case, the American people are stronger and better than their politicians; they are not timid about defending and preserving their country as founded. As they start speaking more openly among themselves—“Obama lied to this nation about who he was and what he believed, and he ought to resign or be impeached”—the message will get through to the elected leaders. One or more of them will finally say what the people are already thinking, and then the ‘resign or be impeached’ train will leave the station. Gingrich took an important first step by figuratively pointing to the train sitting over there at the station; let’s hope the American people provide the courage to other leaders to get on board, fire it up and get rolling.
