The Ft. Hood Wake Up Call

May it be the mainstream media’s Waterloo, with Obama not far behind

The Ft. Hood massacre was a murderous attack by a fanatical Muslim who hated what he believed America stands for that is in opposition to his religion. Every sentient American knows this. Without exception. Every member of the American armed forces knows this. Without exception. The implications of this fact may be subject to debate—as in, what are we going to do about it—but the fact is not. Yet we are being treated to life in a state of denial, as the political elite and the Pravda media twist themselves into unrecognizable and utterly non-credible sources of information and commentary as they struggle to find some politically correct explanation that will convince Americans to just move on and not worry about it. They are so far gone in terms of credibility and judgment—reading and listening to what they have to say has become cringe-inducing…truly embarrassing. It’s becoming hard to be angry with them—they are just pitiful.

Obama is right in step with them. His initial comments on the event were just creepy—disconnected, insincere and out-of-touch. We’ve long thought that Obama has ‘lost the team’—meaning the support of a majority of the American people—over his performance to date and his radical left agenda that was hidden and disguised in his presidential election campaign. His alleged 50% approval ratings, if not out-and-out fabrications, are no more than reflections of the core decency of the American people in not wanting to say they now dislike the guy they elected President only a year ago. But Obama’s initial reaction to the Ft. Hood massacre—no matter how well his handlers try to help him clean up the mess with subsequent speeches and remarks—was a stunning eye-opener to just how ‘foreign’ or if you prefer, un-American, this guy really is. Americans just don’t react this way to crazed Muslims on American soil murdering members of the volunteer force that protects and defends our freedom from crazed Muslims.

In our view, there have already been more than enough straws to break the camel’s back of the Obama administration, but this incident may be the one that puts enough additional Americans over the top to finally unleash popular demand for impeachment and removal proceedings. Americans know they are living in a dangerous world, and they instinctively know that Islam has a lot to do with that danger. They are right. And they are now seeing a President who is completely out of touch with them, not only with his radical left domestic agenda but as to the basic responsibility of protecting and defending the country. This is just flat out unacceptable to the vast majority of Americans, regardless of political affiliation.

In broader terms, just as American ideals continue to stir the people to take back their country politically (witness this week’s elections and protests on Capitol Hill), they will also stir the people to take back their country religiously. America is a Christian nation; it is the outgrowth of Judeo-Christian teachings; it is the celebration of the rightness of those teachings in their ability to inspire humanity toward the blessings that come from individual freedom and responsibility as the children of a loving God, and not the subservient subjects of tyrannical humans or false gods.

Another inescapable fact is that America’s Judeo-Christian ideals and fundamentalist Islam are in direct conflict; wherever one or the other is the principal influence on a nation or a people, the results are radically different cultures and societies. There is no question as to which culture and society will be most characterized by freedom, tolerance, respect and love for one’s neighbor; there is no question as to which culture and society is better for promoting peace and progress for humanity. But the political elite and the Pravda media will not say these things, and do not want anyone to think these things because they fear the only possible outcome will be out-of-control violence between and among the world’s people. The potentially tragic irony is that it is the refusal to say these things and the willful denial of these truths that increase the chances for out-of-control violence between and among people.

Why? Evil runs amok if it is not identified and resisted. To deny that there is a conflict, and to deny the ability to know which set of ideals is right, is to give evil free reign. And the result of evil being given free reign is violence, death and destruction.

Use of the word ‘evil’ always induces tantrums from the godless left—because to them there is no such thing as good and evil. The elites are also offended, as they instantly read these types of comments and leap to the conclusion that they endorse bigotry and hatred toward Muslims. The truth is that the battle here is between good and evil, but it isn’t between people. Many of us know people of the Muslim faith who are good, decent, law-abiding and genuinely tolerant of others outside their faith; and most everyone knows that the Christian ideal of being good, decent, law-abiding and genuinely tolerant of others outside their faith is not perfectly followed by every professed Christian. But theology and ideals drive which standards of behavior are the rule, and which are the exception. It isn’t Christian theology that is inciting random acts of violence and murder against innocents. It isn’t Christian theology that encourages the oppression of women. It isn’t Christian theology that teaches hatred of the Jews or any other religious or ethnic or racial group.

The long term answer is going to have to involve a moderation or alteration of the teachings of Islam—preferably arising from within the religion itself (a position we have long advocated). It doesn’t require a hot war, no matter how often the pragmatists and realists lecture us to the effect that ‘you can’t ask someone to change their religion’. We have to ask, and we need to pray to see it happen. We think people given a real, informed and free choice will gravitate toward a faith in that which inspires the good in all, whether it is modified Islam or revitalized Christianity. But a state of denial is of no help. A state of denial brought us the Ft. Hood massacre, and a state of denial will increase the odds that there will be more Ft. Hoods. The wake-up call has sounded once again.
