Football Won't Save Obama

There is a huge chunk of America that takes great comfort in the return of college and professional football in the fall. There is a sense of normalcy to it; it is quintessentially American; it exemplifies honest competition and meritocracy, both in terms of winning a spot on a team and in terms of winning the game. Celebrity and wealth may follow excellence, but the excellence must come first, and when excellence in performance falters, accountability remains relevant, and the celebrity and wealth typically crashes along with the faltering performance. Yes, there are always individual exceptions, but, as always, the exceptions just prove the rule.

The radical leftists that have defined the Democrat Party are desperately looking for a way to connect back with Americans. They know Obama/Reid/Pelosi have lost the country. And so expect to see Obama get his mug back on college or pro football telecasts, either through interviews, ad spots on fatherhood, or just public quips on what’s happening with various teams. It’s Obama’s last refuge—where his sycophants believe he can still leverage ‘cool’ and be re-embraced by Americans.

Not gonna happen. Football is sport’s proxy for American ideals of self-reliance, hard work, toughness and ‘earned success’. It’s notably non-racist, or at least visibly as integrated based on merit as any American enterprise. So whether or not the black athlete tows the line of never-a-bad-word-about-Obama, the sport he is engaged in, and the overwhelming majority of fans who watch it (whether black, white, brown or yellow; male or female) are the people who love the country and its freedom and its military and its Judeo-Christian faith. Obama looks more foreign to them by the day, and transparent efforts to connect with the football-loving populace while systematically acting to disparage, undermine or destroy everything that they love about America, will just widen the alienation they already feel toward this 'alien in the White House'.

In a way that can’t be understood and will only be scoffed at by most of the punditry, there is actually a confluence of energy between and among the tea partiers, the “Restoring Honor” attendees and their friends and relatives on whom they have had a rippling effect, and the heart and soul of football-loving America. This energy is not anti-Obama the human being, but it is most definitely pro-America and most definitely anti-leftist. And as the fall news continues to get worse and worse as to the economy and the Obama administration’s relentless assault on American values continues through every czar and Cabinet officer—this energy is only going to build on the tsunami that is going to hit the leftists on November 2nd.
