It's Not the Economy, but Here are Five Steps to Help

Ronald Reagan was 69 years old when first inaugurated as President. He had already served two successful terms as Governor of California, back when California was a serious state. He had decades of writing and making his own speeches on the GE factory tour circuit, and later on the radio. His conservative political philosophy was anchored in a simple but solid Christian faith—a faith that saw the connection between that faith and the founding of America on principles of liberty and limited government. His philosophy had been tested through decades of leadership activity, and he didn’t waver in his convictions (recall an early vote on welfare reform by America’s governors: Reagan lost 49 to 1, but the ideas he championed later became the foundation for the highly successful welfare reform enacted over Clinton’s veto in the 1990’s). As President, Reagan initiated the greatest economic turnaround in American history by persuading a Democrat-controlled Congress to go along with him on the largest tax cut in American history.

When the term ‘Reaganesque’ is used by the mindless media of today, it usually connotes speech-making with a sunny, optimistic tone, as if that were enough to move the hearts and minds of men and women. If only it were that simple.

Now we have a 47 year old President who has never had executive experience of any kind at any time. He has no track record of achievement, except in winning rigged elections in the manifestly corrupt Chicago political culture. He has a hard left political philosophy that was consciously and deliberately hidden from the electorate in 2008 but is becoming increasingly evident with every action he proposes. There is absolutely no sense that the man has any faith in anything besides himself and his oratorical skills, although many Muslims look at his personal history, middle name, and general countenance and see a fellow Muslim. He is not persuading a Republican-controlled Congress of the power of his ideas; he is stampeding a spineless Democrat-controlled Congress that will throw away America as it worships at the altar of rigged ‘presidential approval’ polls.

The mindless media is determined to label him “Reaganesque” or “Lincolnesque” based on his ability to deliver a speech which can be sound-bitten to make it appear to have the same inspirational content and power that Reagan or Lincoln had.

So why don’t we see a turnaround in the nation’s mood? Why do we see (and feel) a near relentless sense of anxiety and gloom and despair?

Because Obama as President is a fraud. He lied to the American people about who he is and what he believes, and he rode piggyback on the mindless media’s embrace of the phony issue of skin color as the single biggest factor that should be considered when electing the President of the United States. Skin color is utterly and completely irrelevant. Ideas matter; character matters; and yes, faith matters.

Now we seem to be governed by the most godless, faithless, intellectual administration in the nation’s history—an administration that is 180 degrees out of phase with the principles of America’s founding. And here’s something not widely understood—intellect without faith and humility before God is not intelligence and therefore cannot be the foundation of competence. It is a slick-looking weather-vane, spinning in the wind. We are seeing bumbling incompetence on a scale that rises every day; and each step not only does not improve confidence—it decimates it even further. That’s because the heart and soul of men and women senses when the real deal of Christian faith and character and intelligence is leading the way, and when it is not.

When President George W. Bush addressed the nation on September 20, 2001, he spoke of good and evil, of a God who is not neutral on this issue, and he wore his Christian faith in God plainly on his sleeve. He lives it and believes it. That’s why it didn’t matter how eloquent or ineloquent the words or the delivery were; the power came from the spiritual impetus and content that communicated itself regardless of surface-level appearances. And the nation rallied.

So what is to be done today?

The people who understand even a portion of this picture are the Paul Revere’s of today, and they need to have the same courage and determination to spread the alarm throughout the country. An electorate awakened from the stupefying influence of the mindless media can turn the country around no matter who occupies the various branches of government. This is a nation and government of the people, by the people and for the people. So....

Step No. 1 is: sound the alarm—everywhere, in every conversation with neighbors, colleagues at work, colleagues in the unemployment line, church members, book club friends, fellow sports fans, and on and on.

Step No. 2 – join the tea parties and other efforts that will be ongoing to make your opposition to this government known. Stand up and be counted. Do not expect someone else will do these things—you do them. Protests and other forms of civil disobedience are going to be growing around the country, only this time they will be populated by the people who normally don’t have the time for this stuff because they’re the people who make the country work. But they’re going to have to make time.

Step No. 3 – don’t be afraid to publicly call for the resignation of Obama. We’ve done so, and will continue to do so. Sure, enlightened opinion will be apoplectic and indignant at this secular form of heresy, but this isn’t about giving the guy a chance, and it isn’t about preserving some unwritten tradition of allowing Presidents to serve their terms absent impeachable offenses. It’s about rescinding a fraud. Obama may or may not commit impeachable offenses as President, but that’s beside the point. He, with the deliberate assistance of the mindless media, committed fraud in becoming the President.

Step No. 4 – help your Christian friends and other people of faith to become clear and united in this movement. We were astounded when we read of so-called Christian groups calling for prayer in support of quick passage of the stimulus bill in order to save the economy. The unstated premise of this position is that human government is god and whatever it is doing is always good and therefore we’ll pray to some other-worldly God to support whatever our human god is doing.

Such groups need to wake up. The stimulus bill included giving $2 billion to ACORN, known for its fraudulent activities in voter registration. This wasn’t debated and it wasn’t the subject of the November 2008 election. It is not an economic stimulus. The stimulus bill to a large extent unwound the welfare reform extensively debated and passed in the 1990’s, and successfully implemented thereafter. This unwinding of welfare reform wasn’t debated, and it wasn’t the subject of the November election. It is not an economic stimulus. The stimulus bill nationalized healthcare records. This wasn’t debated, and it wasn’t the subject of the November election. It is not an economic stimulus. The stimulus bill wasn’t debated at all; wasn’t read by members of Congress, and yet imposed the single largest debt burden in the history of the United States.

Christians and all people of faith, wake up!—a government that passes such a bill is not god and what it is doing is not good. It is not to be supported in prayer; it is to be condemned and denounced as behaving in a deceitful and dishonest and un-godlike manner. Prayer is to see greater conformance of human government action with the righteous standards of God's government, and nullification of whatever is not in accord with those standards.

Step No. 5 – Trust God to adjust this out-of-control, ungodly mess. We are all becoming paralyzed by fear, and then by human calculations which say there is nothing that can be done for this reason or that reason. But all things are possible to God, and the machinery of human invention and manipulation is powerless in the presence of God. If faith equal to a grain of mustard seed can remove a mountain, faith can surely see the reversal of fraudulent law-making, and the removal of a fraudulent government.

People around the nation and the world need to realize we are living in extremely consequential times. As of this writing, they are gradually waking up, primarily because of the way the times are affecting their pocketbook. But the pocketbook is a symbol, an effect. Whether it is full or empty or somewhere in between will ultimately be understood as not a real basis for hope, optimism and confidence in the future. The real basis for these things is a grounded faith in and willingness to obey a loving God, an intuitive rejection of the idea that human government can be a substitute for God, and a simultaneous ability to discern and reject that which is opposed to God. The founding fathers of America had all these things, and so do we. We just have to get to work and claim them.
