American Revolution 2.0 - Drill Now

We don’t recall in our lifetime, or in the history books, when humanity has been so clearly presented with a real life example of the concept of a parallel universe. In one universe, the Political Class, including the Pravda media, set an agenda and orchestrate propaganda to tell one and all how thrilled we are or should be with what is going on in our country. In the other universe, Americans know to the very core of their heart and soul that this President and this government are wildly out of control and out of touch with the American ideal of individual freedom and responsibility under God. Americans are sick about it, and sick of it.

The problem, of course, is that there’s only one universe, and it isn’t held together by propaganda. Truth and reality are not shaped or controlled by elites and sycophants; truth and reality do their own shaping. Which is why we’ve stated our view that a second American Revolution is brewing. This parallel universe thing isn’t sustainable; to be more precise, the radical socialism of the Obama agenda has never worked in the past, does not work now, will not work in the future and cannot work, ever, and no amount of Pravda cheerleading is going to change these facts. This second American Revolution just lacks the individual leaders who sense it, can articulate it, and are ready to sweep the country with it. We’re happy to help with at least the articulation part.

In our ‘American Revolution 2.0’ series of essays or comments, we’ll draw attention to the gulf that persists between the Political Class and Americans. We’ve already written about the tea party phenomenon, here; we’ve also written of the right ideas of the Supreme Court nomination process, here. Let’s take a short look now at the subject of drilling for oil in America.

Sarah Palin’s Vice Presidential candidacy, and her experience with Alaskan oil exploration and development, brought the issue into focus in the 2008 campaign. The basic idea that development of domestic sources not only addresses supply concerns but generates thousands of good-paying jobs in an economy desperately in need of them—this was compelling common sense to most Americans. At the time, even the Democrat-controlled Congress had to show signs of responding to the people’s desire to open up offshore resources. But the economic meltdown began to set in before the actual election; and the price of a gallon of gas declined enough that Pravda could safely take the subject out of circulation. Besides, Pravda believed its character assassination of Sarah Palin was so complete as to remove her credibility on any and every subject.

Pravda is wildly mistaken as to its power over Sarah Palin, but that’s a subject for another day. More importantly to the subject at hand, as we sit here in May 2009, not a thing has changed in America’s basic need for and dependency on foreign sources of oil; in fact, among the many hidden items in this oh-so-not-transparent government has been the placing of additional American resources off limits for oil and gas exploration.

The Political Class and Pravda prattle on about alternative energy, green cars, and global warming, but Americans know (1) there is no near term alternative to fossil fuels; (2) they don’t want puny, unsafe, impractical green cars; and (3) they are well into recognizing that not only is the planet not warming —it is doing whatever it is doing climate-wise without regard to man’s activities (as it always has).

The probability that the nation and the world will face an oil supply ‘issue’ within the next several months—and certainly before the next election cycle—is very high. When it arises, Americans will be freshly reminded of this unconscionable shirking of the government’s basic responsibility for the security of the country. The fires of the second American Revolution will be stoked again. To borrow a phrase, bring it on.
