Confront This Evil, UPDATED
We were on record almost four months ago in calling what is going on with the Obama administration exactly what it is: evil. We’ve noticed in our site traffic very heavy page-views associated with that March essay, and have reproduced it below.
We stand by it, and would add a few thoughts.
We think more and more Americans are sensing the fraud that Obama pulled off in the November 2008 election. We’ve written about it extensively, most recently in
“Barack Madoff”.
But now they are wrestling with the really hard part of all this, which is coming to grips with the question of why? Why would any American Presidential candidate want to deceive and defraud the American people?
At the simplest level, the answer is obviously to gain power. Had Obama been honest about whom he was and how he intended to govern, he would never have been elected. That’s enough of an answer for most Americans, as they understand the lust for power and the ways it can corrupt those who seek it. But in the more intellectual salons of the country, and even in some honest liberal corners, there is a growing recognition of the financial and social catastrophe that is being designed and implemented on a deliberate basis—a catastrophe that will deeply harm the future of America and all its people, including the children and grandchildren of honest liberals. Within these circles, the nagging question is—why is he doing this? Why would any American President set about systematically ignoring, sidestepping and affirmatively violating the US Constitution? What kind of man is he?
Welcome to America’s re-introduction to the concept of good and evil. Few want to face it; virtually no one wants to put it in those terms (although
the piece at this link
comes close). But the Judeo-Christian teaching of man as the creation of one God, with individual freedom and moral responsibility under God, is true and right; and America was founded on this teaching. It is good. And it is forever opposed and attacked by that which is not good. What opposes and attacks it is evil. Fascism, Nazism, communism, totalitarianism--all have taken their shot, and now it is an attack of socialism and atheism from within the country.
America's experince is no different than humanity's first experience with what happens when a new order is proclaimed that is based on the existence of one God, of man made in the image and likeness of God, with freedom and moral responsibility under God. In Jesus’ time, the reaction of those who despised the idea of an authority higher than they, and despised the idea of free men and women rather than ‘subjects of the king’ or ignorant masses, was this: trumped up accusation, phony trial, rigged conviction and murder by the state. St. Paul referred to this hostile mentality at work as the carnal mind—a state of thought radically and irreversibly opposed to God.
The carnal mind is running amok in this administration and among its supporters. George Soros is openly and proudly anti-Christian and anti-Judaism. Obama thinks he is above all religion and is the wise reconciler of all these weak people who embrace silly religions of various kinds. Obama’s associates—like William Ayres and Jeremiah Wright—are transparently and irrationally full of hate for America. Saul Alinsky himself—the inspiration behind so much of the radical left agenda and tactics—originally dedicated his “Rules for Radicals” to Lucifer.
In their actions toward the Bush administration and those who worked to protect the nation from Islamist’ terrorism; in their actions toward auto industry and financial industry management; in their approach to blaming man and industry for changes in the earth’s climate; in their manufacturing of ‘crisis’ to justify nationalization of healthcare—in every one of these arenas, they are following the pattern of trumped up accusation, phony trials, rigged conclusions and convictions, and they are seeking the murder or destruction of the American ideals that led to the actual goodness that lies behind them.
We don’t know how much longer the American people are going to consent to keeping this government and debate over its agenda within the realm of civil political discourse. The leftists are counting on the endless goodwill and ‘foolability’ of the American people. They are mistaken. History is on the side of good and truth.
We remain hopeful that the sheer force of Truth will inspire men and women everywhere to stop this agenda cold, and begin reversing it, as the process of awakening to what is going on spreads across the country to everyone, regardless of political affiliation. Because the fact is, the real number of people who are designing this agenda, supporting it, and trying to steamroll it through Congress is actually very, very small. They represent an illusion of power and authority, a mockery of real strength, and they will fall when, as and if confronted.
We the people need to confront them, NOW.

Text of original March essay
We are in the middle of an all-out war between good and evil in the United States of America. It’s that simple and that stark. The sooner we see it as such, the better off we will be. Because the critical question is not whether good or evil will win—good always wins—the critical question is how much individual and collective pain and suffering will we have to endure before we see the good prevail. The lesson which history suggests is so hard for humanity to learn is that the pain and suffering is dramatically reduced, not increased, directly in proportion to our willingness to confront the evil as evil. Only then is the evil exposed, revealed as the empty suit it is, and defeated. But so long as we refuse or are afraid to speak clearly in terms of good and evil, we are actually fanning the flames of a fire that will engulf us and become more and more costly to finally put out. To be blunt, we are increasing the chances that it will take violence to finally put a stop to the evil.
Here’s what we mean by not confronting evil:
• Paul Ryan’s
opening statement
to the House committee dealing with the budget has been circulating on the web. It’s a model of civility and decorum, emphasizing that his is a debate about policy and not personality, and the actual substance of his objections to the Obama budget are pointed and good. Ryan is the picture of an all-round nice guy, almost a Jimmy Stewart-like citizen legislator. No doubt his faith, family background, and ties to his district convince him that he is acting in the right way. He is getting nowhere; he is being trampled as he is being ignored.
• Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana and widely viewed as a rising star in Republican circles, is certainly a very bright and accomplished young man, but he’s suffering from the same delusions as Ryan. Here is a pertinent excerpt from his March 24 remarks at a Republican congressional fundraiser:
Let me be clear again…it is wrong to suggest that this new Administration has anything other than good intentions. This is not a difference born of anything other than a fundamental and honest disagreement about the right direction for America to go. Too often in the heat of battle in politics we slip into a situation where we talk about the other party as if they are sinister people, as if they have some master plan to hurt America. Some on our side say that the Democrats are trying to destroy the free enterprise system and bankrupt America, and some on their side say that we don’t care about the plight of working people. Let’s be clear, neither of these assessments is true, and neither are reasoned political discourse. It’s really this simple – The Democrats believe that the historic spending and expansion of government is the way to get us out of our current economic problems. They honestly believe that.
Bobby Jindal’s remarks represent the traditional ‘high road’ of speechmaking by those who historically have been called statesmen. They derive from a school of thought which says that even if a speaker like Jindal doesn’t believe all the good things he says about the opposition, it is better to say them in order to preserve the best chance at a civil resolution of political disputes. They are also an attempt to curry favor with the media, or at least dilute media reaction against all who would criticize the liberal religion of Democrats and the media. But what’s at stake in America today isn’t a minor dispute between the party in power and the ‘loyal opposition’. The facts are plain to anyone who cares to investigate: George Soros
does have sinister intentions
and does want the bankruptcy of America; Obama-channeling-Saul Alinsky
does seek the destruction of the American free enterprise system;
and the hard-left Democrats do NOT honestly believe expansion of government is the way to get us out economic problems—they believe it is the way to perpetuate and worsen them as a means of increasing dependence on government, and thereby destroying once and for all the America of the founding. All of this is egregious and deceitful evil, and Bobby Jindal needs to apply his spiritual smarts to see it and say it.
• Tony Blankley is a serious player inside the Beltway, now a frequent speaker and writer, and formerly in the heavyweight ring on a regular basis as press secretary to Newt Gingrich for seven years. He wrote a pointed and accurate column a few weeks ago titled
"Obama Lied; the Economy Died"
and was so taken aback by the vitriolic blowback that
a later column
advocated an across the board pullback in the rhetoric on both sides of the political aisle. In Blankley’s view, the issues facing the country are too severe and too complex to have their resolution impaired by inflammatory words. He appealed to a more civil and level-headed discussion.
Again, Blankley’s appeal is noble and cut from the same cloth as Ryan’s and Jindal’s. They sound sensible and commendable. But their starting point is a denial, or a refusal to believe, that the battle is between good and evil. Their starting point is wrong, which is why their noble tactics are futile.
• Mark Levin has courageously written a book,
“Liberty and Tyranny – A Conservative Manifesto”
—which will certainly sharpen some aspects of the ongoing political debate. As a writer and talk radio host, Levin is among the least likely to pull punches when it comes to questions of right and wrong. But even he, in his book’s careful characterization of the battle as one between the conservative and the “Statist”, won’t go all the way to where the truth leads—which is that the Statist’s views and actions are evil.
So let’s go where Ryan, Jindal, Blankley and Levin won’t.
Individual freedom and responsibility under God is the foundational ideal of America; it is anchored in truth itself; and the magnificence and goodness of the American society built on this ideal has been plain to anyone with eyes to see. The formulation of this ideal also clarifies what evil is.
Whatever attacks or aggressively denies the individuality of man and treats him as some sort of undifferentiated ‘mass man’ or as part of groups of ‘mass man’ is evil. Whatever deliberately suppresses or seeks to replace freedom under God with the rules and restrictions of men without regard to God is evil. Whatever seeks to replace individual responsibility under God with the subjection and obedience of men to other men is evil. In a generic sense, whatever substitutes the authority of men for the authority of God is evil. In every case, the evil isn't a person, but a way of thinking.
The sneer of the faithless sophisticate will immediately conjure up hypothetical scenarios to poke at the general rules laid out above. Doesn’t matter; people intuitively grasp what we’re talking about.
Here’s the right starting point for Ryan, Jindal, Blankley and Levin:
• Every single major initiative of the Obama administration is evil. That is why we are seeing unprecedented stirring and unrest among the people. And while we’re at it, let’s be clear about something else. Truth never supports evil. The arguments and attacks of evil are always based on lies. Which is another reason the people are turning angry.
Let’s look at some examples.
Relaxation of immigration law enforcement (Nancy Pelosi has articulated her view that it is un-American to enforce the immigration laws)—this is based entirely on a ‘mass man’ concept; specifically, that there is a monolithic “Hispanic” ‘mass man’ identity that accepts the lie that lawlessness is the path to a peaceful and ordered society.
Imposing a ‘cap-and-trade’ system to address global warming—these are the rules and restrictions of men, based on a man-created belief in an enormous lie. There is no conclusive or even convincing evidence of man-made global warming; there is no ‘consensus’ of scientists; there is no established correlation of CO2 to global temperature; the last ten years have been cooling, not warming (a fact not predicted by any of “infallible” computer modelers).
Nationalization of healthcare—this is the fundamental yielding of individual freedom on perhaps the single most important aspect of life—health—to the authority of government bureaucracies. The viability of the concept is a provable lie. Nationalization of healthcare has been tried in many countries, and everywhere it has been tried it has failed—resulting in poorer quality services, more waiting, less innovation in treatment, an overall mess.
Reckless, unfathomable amounts of government spending as part of the view that “government is the only answer” is by definition the substitution of the authority of men for the authority of free men and women under God. It is a manifest lie that such spending can stimulate anything. It can only be repaid through loss of freedom—meaning initiative-deadening taxes, or social-compact killing devaluation of the dollar.
Demonization of ‘capitalism’, which is really nothing more that demonizing those who have thrived under freedom. The all-out, quasi-Stalinist, attempted purge of AIG-bonus recipients, including government-sanctioned physical harassment and intimidation, for performing and abiding by contracts freely entered into and known and approved by the government before being paid is as gross an example of the arbitrary demand of men to be subject and obedient to other men as has ever occurred in America. The furor—including banana republic-level harassment of individual American citizens—was fueled directly by the overt and repeated lies of the United States Secretary of the Treasury about the government’s knowledge and involvement in the payment of the bonuses.
Not one of these five pieces of the Obama agenda was ‘elected’ by the American people. To suggest otherwise is yet another lie.
_______________________
So, okay, you say, this all still seems a little overwrought, but now we’ve called evil by its name. What does that do for anyone? If you think Paul Ryan was ignored before, wait till he starts talking in terms of good and evil! He’ll be laughed out of Washington, D.C.!
With due respect, that says more about the moral vacuity of Washington, D.C., than it does about the merits of calling evil by its name. But regardless, the fact is we’ll never see a lifting of America's angst until we sense that we have some political leaders who understand the nature and the stakes of the fight we're in--and that means leaders who identify evil as evil. And what that will do for all of us is make it easier to understand why we will not and should not compromise. There is never anything to be gained by compromise with evil, or, if you prefer a more specific example, by tinkering with cap-and-trade. The only answer is to reject it totally, and defeat it. Which leads to some additional clear, unequivocal and uncompromisable positions and demands for the times:
• Repeal the entire stimulus
• Scrap the Obama budget
• Scrap cap-and-trade
• Turn on American oil exploration and production
• Demand Obama’s resignation on grounds of fraud on the American people
As for Mr. Ryan and Mr. Jindal, they’ll continue to choose their words in whatever way they see fit. But the people are watching and listening, and whether or not they hear the language of good and evil, they will definitely see if and when Mr. Ryan and Mr. Jindal draw firm, clear, and uncompromising lines in the sand in opposition to this radical, outrageous and fraudulent government. They will judge whether these are the kind of men strong enough and vocal enough to lead and actually deal with and defeat this all-out attack on America. It’s our guess that they won’t really connect with the people and start turning the country around until they actually have the insight, energy and conviction to see this evil for what it is, and aggressively denounce it.
Here’s what ought to be the plan going forward: no rest until Americans achieve every one of the bulleted demands; no cooperation whatsoever with the proponents of evil; no civility with them. Steadfast and absolute resistance at every step of the way. No bowing or cowering to the media, and no pandering to polls. Obama's agenda must be stopped, cold, in total, NOW. Once that occurs, we’ll trust free men and women under God to restore the American economy and way of life.
