New Jersey Governor Chris Christie:
This is an American Leader UPDATED

UPDATED again, May 14, 2010

OK, it's time to launch the "Christie for President" campaign. This guy just gets better and better. Comfortable in his own skin; New Jersey tough; and says what he will do and then does it. Don't know much about his policies outside the fiscal realm, but within that realm, he is as rock solid and articulate as anyone on the conservative side.

Take a look here at his latest smackdown exchange with a classic left-wing reporter worried about confrontational 'tone'. There are Americans all over this country who are ready to jump out of their seats to applaud this guy for saying what nobody else in politics seems to be able to say with anything close to the same level of confidence, clarity and intelligence.

President Christie for 2012!

We wrote just a couple of weeks ago (see below) of the emergence of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as a straight-shooting, unafraid truth-teller who is shaking up New Jersey politics in a big way.

He's staying right on course, as his recent budget presentation to the New Jersey legislature indicates (transcript here).

This is a guy who doesn't need a teleprompter to remind him of what he thinks. This is a guy who doesn't need various wizards of smart to tell him how the world works. He already knows. And he embodies the fearlessness that comes from finally stating the truth to the people about what reckless government has brought them.

Christie has a long way to go, but he's on the only right path. The people of New Jersey know it, and Americans watching from a distance know it. Expect to see him emerge on the national scene--or if not him, someone who is delivering the same message with the same look-you-in-the-eye honesty that puts the lie to the liberal drivel we have tolerated for far too long.

There aren’t many occasions when you can feel your jaw dropping as you listen to a politician. But yours will if you take the time to listen to 25 minutes or so of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie addressing the New Jersey League of Municipalities. A video is here; a partial transcript here.

The Presidential candidate who delivers Christie’s message will win the next election in a landslide. His is a straight talking, fearless, truth-telling style, and anyone and everyone who is paying attention to what is going on in America and in New Jersey knows that what he is saying is true.

We cannot continue down the present course of unsustainable spending. We cannot do it. There is no way to keep promising to solve people’s problems with other people’s money. Even more important, the standard political strategies and tactics have led us to disaster, and the people know it.

Left-wing Tactics 101 says political leaders can never stand up to cutting anything; Political Class Thinking 101 (whether from the right or the left) says entitlements can NEVER be cut once enacted because of Left-wing Tactics 101. According to this cynical view of humanity, it’s an endless, ever-growing loop that will never be stopped because the people and their elected leaders refuse to see or face truth.

Yes we can, and yes we will. The people and their leaders can see the truth and are willing to face it. We just need a few more voices like Governor Christie’s to rise up and say so, and the voters everywhere, just like the voters in New Jersey, will say, ‘it’s about time’.

The American people have turned the corner; they’re awake to the Obama fraud; they want him out of the Presidency, and Reid and Pelosi out of office and out of the headlines; they are sick of being played for simpletons or low-class, manipulable haters and slaves of envy and group grievance. They are Americans, dammit, and they want to find some real American leaders.

Governor Christie is a great start. May others follow his path.
