Repeal will be the Bellwether Test

When the energy and focus of the tea parties delivers a change in control of the House of Representatives on November 2nd, there will be an early test of whether the new Congress is itself going to be thrown out in 2012: will they vote to repeal Obamacare?

The American people want Obamacare repealed. This is as clear as anything ever gets in the modern political world.

The ruling class wants to peddle a pragmatism angle, saying that unless there are veto-proof majorities in both houses of Congress, a vote to repeal is politically futile. The elitist Republican strategists will probably even go so far as to tell the American people that calling for a repeal vote that will be vetoed is unwise because of the opportunity it will give Obama and Pravda to lie and spin about the good of Obamacare.

Forget this conventional wisdom; forget pragmatism and forget the fear of lies and spin. The American people want Obamacare repealed. They also understand how the Constitution works. But they are not interested in politics and political calculations anymore. They are interested in representative government, and representative government in this case means a newly elected Congress will deliver on what the people want them to do.

In these circumstances, the traditional fear of media spin is 180 degrees off. The American people want repeal voted on, approved, and sent to Obama to sign or veto. And if he vetoes it, it won’t matter how many trees or pixels are used up by the New York Times or the Washington Post in defense of Obama’s veto, the American people will be turned against Obama in numbers and with an intensity that has never been seen in American history.

What the ruling class so far has not grasped, and may be internally incapable of grasping, is that the American people are way ahead of them in understanding the nature of the war we are in, and the stakes for America’s and the world’s future. This is not a game. The American people are through listening to politicians deny the truth and pretend everything is still ok, and America will simply march along.

Everything is not ok in America, and nothing will be set right by conventional wisdom or the ruling class pontificating about grand benefits of compromise. Wars are not fought to achieve compromise; they are fought to achieve victory and destroy the enemy. In this case, the enemy is an orchestrated radical left-wing attempt to overthrow the Constitution and the America of the founding. The enemy must be stopped. It will take courage, boldness and persistence to stop it and defeat the enemy.

A vote to repeal Obamacare will be the first test of whether the newly elected Congress is up to the task. If they bail out from even calling for a repeal vote, they will instantly lose the American people’s support and confidence, and the Republican leaders responsible for such a decision will be voted out of office in 2012. Mark these words.

So hold your Congressman’s feet to the fire. Demand the repeal vote. Force Obama to defy the will of the people once again and very visibly. He will eventually bring about his own fall.
