Truth at Work

What is at work in Iran is above Obama’s pay grade…

You can almost excuse the Obama administration for their arrogance. Through skillful oratory by the candidate, with messages shaped by PR guru David Axelrod, and the whole effort underwritten by George Soros, they beat the Clintons; they beat McCain; and they have charmed into abject obedience a lapdog media. Despite pursuit of a radical left agenda that was deliberately concealed from voters and is today solidly opposed by a strong majority of Americans, they believe they can ride personal popularity polls through to the execution of their agenda.

People who live too long in elitist bubbles believe that truth is theirs to shape, mold and form in the way they see fit. It isn’t. Truth exists independent of and despite elitists’ efforts to redefine it. Abraham Lincoln—the quintessential anti-elitist—knew this. That’s why when Lincoln was asked whether he’d pray that God was on the Union’s side, Lincoln replied no, he needed to pray that he was on God’s side.

The Obama masterminds have been smacked upside the head by the truth that is operating in Iran. It really isn’t complicated—it’s the protest that springs from the universal yearning for freedom, and especially when the promise of even a little freedom proves to be fraudulent. Whether the mullahs succeed in crushing the rebellion in the near term is irrelevant; the idea of freedom cannot be crushed, and the yearning for it cannot be extinguished.

The place you’ll find the inextinguishable idea of freedom codified as the basis of government is the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. The American people know this, even if Obama and his leftist colleagues don’t. The American people never had any doubts about where they stood vis-à-vis the Iranian protesters; they didn’t see any strategic nuance in how to react and respond to the murder of Neda.

For Obama, who is at the very least a Muslim sympathizer; is not anything close to a practicing Christian, and is very close to an out-and-out anti-Semite, the Iranian picture just doesn’t work. The radical Islamists who run Iran just need Obama’s brilliant, above-it-all perspective to see the error of their extreme ways, and mere mortal Iranians must not interfere with the grand Obama’s designs to help them. Problem is, those mere mortal Iranians don’t seem to have a lot of love for those who ‘rule’ them. Could it be that a radical Islamic theocracy is just not what any human heart longs to be subject to? Could it be that American ideals are (gasp!) better? Could it be that George W. Bush’s vision of freedom and democracy spreading in the Middle East had a grounding in truth and can’t be stopped?

The marvelous upshot of all this is that Obama has clearly been thrown off his stride. His hastily called press conference on Tuesday afternoon started out with a hostile question (from the evil Fox News) but was followed by several more. Obama is not used to being challenged; his authoritarian, elitist attitude comes bursting out for all to see when someone finally calls him on something.

It will be hard to know just what is happening in Iran as the mullahs continue their crack down, and block as much media access as they can. But we think the Iranian situation has a long way to run; Obama is not going to be given a way to put the genie back in the bottle by the weekend so he can go on with his radical left domestic agenda. He’s been exposed as weak and confused on the fundamental American (and Judeo/Christian) value: LOVE OF FREEDOM. This is going to ripple throughout his agenda, because the people have seen this weakness in ways they haven't before.

Obama is way over his head in every dimension of executive American leadership, particularly as it relates to the engine of freedom: the American free market economy. The economic condition of the nation has been shouting this fact in every way imaginable, but it doesn’t connect to Obama’s weaknesses the way vacillation in the face of killing a 16 year old Iranian girl does. But now it will start to connect.

Americans didn’t want the bailouts; they don’t like government ownership of car companies; they don’t want nationalized healthcare; they have more than enough common sense to know that trillions of new spending can never lead to anything good. They’ve wondered why their President doesn’t know these things, but they’ve wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, and with a compliant Pravda media, Axelrod probably thought he could keep everything under control. He is wrong.

We extend heartfelt thanks to Iranian people! We didn’t help you, but you have helped us, tremendously. Here’s to an American monument to Neda...
